some history...! Not many Lancias are seen on Danish roads, but this says more about the Danes interest for "everyday" cars than it does about Lancia. But also in Denmark there are people who understand the virtues of fine design and special quality. People who likes cars different from the ordinary, with that little "extra" which makes them special without being offensive. Lancia has throughout its history since 1906 build cars for these people, people who willingly spend a little extra on quality, without exploiting it for the neighbour. Many of the models has been revolutionary technical creations, as the Lambda from 1922 with independent front wheel suspension and a modern self-carrying chassis. Its driveability allowed it to go in circles around anything else from those days. Later came Aprilia, the most modern middle class car in the thirties. After the second world war, the factory launched the revolutionary Aurelia with a V6 engine, which became a class example for many other car manufacturers. In the sixties it was the Fulvia Coupé which was the leading sportscar and won a row of world championship rallies. It was later followed by the Stratos and in the eighties the, until now, never beaten record holder Delta. 6 Rally World champion titles in a row, an unbelievable record.
In 1976 Lancia introduced the Gamma, in typical Lancia style, an untraditional car with a performance far beyond expectations but before that came the merger with FIAT (or the take over from FIAT as some prefer to call it) in 1969 and the first new development there after was the Beta series. Many looked on the Beta as a kind of FIAT, mainly because FIAT had put the famous Lampredi DOHC engine in the Beta, but even if the engine looked like the FIAT original, it was refined by Lancia engineers to have better "breathing" and lower consumption figures than the original. And the Beta series drove wonderful, and a series of coupes and spiders came from the same design Coupé, Spider, HPE and not least the Monte Carlo all originated in the Beta. Later came Delta, Prisma, Dedra, Ypsilon and latest the Kappa all "top of its class" vehicles. The Danish Lancia Register was founded in 1989 and membership can be obtained by all Lancia owners, new or old doesnt matter. We claim that Lancia cars through all the many years has maintained a common track of technical quality and high performance. A Lancia will always be for people who values good driving, and can tell the difference between a ordinary and something special.
So, what are the advantages of being a member of the Danish Lancia Register:
Among the Danish Lancia Registers members are people who know how to restorate a car from a to z and there are members who has to seek professional assistance to maintain their Lancia. All are equally welcome. The common thing is the pleasure of being together about good Italian cars frequently combined with the pleasure of good Italian dining and wining. |
